I had my first dream in Spanish the other day. This was a monumental step in my journey to become proficient in Spanish. My pastimes have been filled with listening to Coffee Break Spanish podcast episodes for the last two months, hoping to rewire my brain to comprehend another language. It's still a work in progress, but I am so excited to fully immerse into the language while studying abroad in Argentina this summer. I can finally put my six years of taking Spanish class to good use.
Besides (hopefully) adding a new language to my resume, there are so many other things I can't wait to experience. Food is something always on my mind, and trying Argentine cuisine is one of the main reasons I chose this country. I'm sure my love for empanadas will only expand after these six weeks, and I hope to try an abundance of new foods as well. I also cannot wait to take in all the sights Argentina has to offer. After hearing about its range in natural wonders, from the Iguazu Falls to glaciers in Patagonia, I scrambled to plan a way to fit as much as possible in the mere six weeks I was going to have. I was disappointed to learn that much of Patagonia would be closed in the winter months of Argentina, but there is still so much to see in this vast country. As of right now, I plan on visiting the falls, going skiing in the Andes mountains, and hiking the trails in Salta, a city in Northern Argentina. However, I'm sure my dream itinerary will change as I meet new people during my time abroad.
Another thing I can't stop thinking about: the utter joy I felt after Messi closed his international fútbol career with a World Cup trophy. I know my excitement doesn't even compare to how Argentinians must have felt during that moment. I've played soccer my entire life, and I absolutely love how passionate the entire country of Argentina is about the beautiful game. I cannot believe I'm going to have the opportunity of possibly getting to play pickup games in one of the most prominent fútbol countries in the world. However, if I'm going to be honest with myself, even the children will probably have better skills than me.
There is so much about my future trip to Argentina that I can't stop daydreaming about. My hands are sweating from the excitement I'm getting from even just writing about the things I will get to experience. I'm going to start counting down the days just to make this wait more bearable. See you in 57 days, Buenos Aires.
